review : modern warfare 2

Wednesday, December 23, 2009

i just got this game installed (or rather say 'pasted' into my hard drive) and played it a bit. from my point of view, this game still carrying their call of duty theme although it drop the COD title now. like the previous, you got multiple characters, the same health system and so on but they've got some 'major' addition (because it's 'modern' ^^)

obviously as you enter the game, you have 3 menus to choose, special ops, campaign and multiplayer. in special ops you can co-op with friend to play independent mission/time trial. in campaign, you play story driven mission which to my surprise,it got me playing on the terrorist side and do what normally terrorists did.
in multiplayer, you can hook up online with 'only' 16 playes, which is pretty disappointing compared to what modern warfare has to offer before.

beside normal shooting action as previous game, they now get you hiking and snow-mobile race (the hiking part is the hardest one, and get some time to understand how it works). if you played the previous modern warfare, there's a scene that feels like the one from the ending of 'crew expendable' mission, which brings sort of deja-vu.

in term of graphic and sounds, there's not so much improvement from the previous game but still it's looks good (and more importantly run well with my rig). another one that got my attention is, most of the mission i played is set in closed space (such as back alley and airport) compared to it's predecessor.

overall, this game is good. though it's a story driven shooter (compared to most FPS nowadays that have sand box environment), the story is well written and voice acting is nicely done. i found the only turn off for this game is it's price. retailed at RM2++, it's quite expensive compared to other games. still, if you love call of duty series or modern warfare....and don't mind to pay more, this is the game you should get.
